When choosing adoption, do I have to take the baby home with me?
No. Most of the time the adoptive family takes the baby directly home with them from the hospital. In fact, if you agree, and your agency has made the arrangements, most hospitals will allow the adoptive parents to visit with the baby as soon as the baby has been medically cleared after birth. You and the adoptive family will decide together if you will or will not be present for those meetings. You can even choose to have the adoptive parents in the delivery room (if possible).
If the hospital does not allow the adoptive parents in the nursery, the baby will be placed with them upon discharge either at our office or a location close to the hospital. In this instance, you will discuss with your adoption specialist who will take the baby upon discharge from the hospital.
