I wish I could give 4.5 stars as they're really better than four stars, but not quite perfect 🙂
As a potential single mom, it was difficult for me to find an agency that would work with me. But, once I signed on with Adoption Choices, the process moved quickly and I'm now a very happy, though somewhat exhausted, single mommy!
I worked with a consultant, who referred me to three agencies. Adoption Choices was the #3 agency only because it was the most expensive and was not a flat fee agency (meaning you lose your money if the birth mother changes her mind). But, after nearly two years working with other agencies (without even being presented a case that fit my profile), I was willing to take the risk.
The paperwork process with Adoption Choices was simple compared to the other two agencies. And, I was presented my first case that fit my profile immediately upon completion of the paperwork. My second case came just a few weeks later (also fit my profile), and the third case (my match), just a few weeks after that. All in all, it was about seven weeks from completion of paperwork to the time of match. And, in my case, the baby was coming the NEXT DAY! After that, it all moved so quickly, I'm just now (16 months later) coming up for air!
Because of the circumstances of my case, I didn't meet our birth mom or have a relationship with her before birth. Also, I didn't meet or hear from the social worker until we met in the hospital and the baby was minutes away! I was completely unprepared for staying in the hospital for two nights with the baby (and, not being able to leave at all), but that isn't the fault of anyone - everything just happened so fast.
The social worker was great, she balanced going between me and the birth parents. As expected, birth mom had some initial reservations, and our social worker talked us through it and tempered expectations/kept me grounded just in case. It was a rough 48 hours in the hospital (I don't know if anything can prepare you for this range of emotions), but just 72 hours after being presented a case, I was going home with my baby boy!
Over the next six months, there wasn't a lot of communication from the agency, and I didn't really know what to expect. Luckily, I had the support of my consultant, and friends going through the same process with a different agency, whose baby was born just a month after mine. Their agency would check in on them at least two times a month; and prepare them with what to expect in the coming months. But, I didn't get this level of communication from Adoption Choices. The whole six month period, I rarely talked to them unless I initiated a conversation or they needed something (somehow I missed that I needed to be sending them records of the baby's doctor visits).
Ultimately, everything worked out, but the one critique I would give Adoption Choices (and word of advice to families) would be that you can't over-communicate during the placement period. We (families) are completely emotional during this time and have a lot on our plates with the new baby, so anything that can be done to make the process more straight-forward would helpful. Also, the more communication there is helps to ensure expectations are reasonable and are in-line with reality. Perhaps consider a one-pager for the family that details the next steps and to-dos laid out by month after birth. Maybe it's just me because of the whirlwind first 72 hours, but most of what I was told upon leaving the hospital was a blur 🙂
If I had it all to do over again, would I do anything differently? I don't think so. Everything I did got me to this perfect little fella. Would I work with Adoption Choices again? Yes, absolutely. Would I recommend Adoption Choices? Yes, and I have. Any words of advice for families just starting out? Communication is key!

We had such an amazing experience with Adoption Choices of Texas! They made our dream of becoming parents come true! We brought home our baby girl in October and couldn't be happier! Everyone we worked with was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, communicating exactly what we needed to do at every step of the process. We previously experienced 2 failed adoptions with other agencies. Adoption Choices of Texas placed us with a baby that was 2 days old, so we didn't have to wait for a long matching period. We were so elated to get this call and fly to Texas the next day to get our daughter! I can’t say enough good things about Adoption choices of Texas. We had the opportunity to work with them 21/2 years ago with the adoption of our son. We had an amazing experience of open communication and getting to see how they work with not only us but meeting the needs of the birth mom also. We have two biological girls that just adore their little brother so it was no doubt that we felt the tug to add another little one to our family. We were so grateful to see that although we had 3 children we were still a desire for expectant moms. The sibling bond is priceless in our home and we are so grateful that our son now has a little sister who looks like him and also has an adoption story. It’s quite special. In our recent adoption of our baby girl we had an opportunity to compare how our agency worked against another. The contrast was night and day. It was amazing to see the love, care, and time our agency put in working with the expectant mother, taking care of emotional and physical needs, and then to also make sure our questions and needs were met also. They are amazing!! We are so thankful that we were able to work with Adoption Choices of Texas in bringing both of our children home.

We had a tremendous experience with Adoption Choices. We signed up with them in June and brought our newborn baby girl home in December so the overall process was very quick. Communication is definitely their strong suit as we always felt that our questions were answered thoroughly and thoughtfully. The adoption process is very complicated so we were happy to work with Adoption Choices who made each step along the way as easy as they could. As a gay couple adopting in Texas we were a bit nervous as we were researching agencies but I could not be happier with who we went with. They treated us fairly and were quite comfortably LGBT friendly. If you choose Adoption Choices, you will not regret it.

We began working with Adoption Choices of Texas in the fall of 2022. It was very important to us that the agency we work with supports the child's Mom beyond the pregnancy and placement for adoption. The team with Adoption Choices truly cares about all aspects of families. This is evident by the support they offer to Mom and the hopeful adoptive families throughout the journey. The team is excellent at communicating and there to answer questions as they arise which was very important when our daughter arrived very quickly 2.5 weeks early. Their priority is to ensure the baby is placed in the perfect home that aligns with the birth mother's wishes. Adoption is not spoken about as comfortably as other choices to be made unfortunately. I myself come from a background where it’s not welcomed and never spoken about, yet other drastic choices are. However being a Mom of two daughters and expecting another in a point in my life where I know I needed help. Being a Mom and knowing I will love each one of my daughters with all my heart. To love is one thing. To care for them the best way I can mentally, physically, and emotionally is another. To want more for your child more than you are capable of at the time being is another. My experience with Adoption Choices of Texas and with my counselor Ashley Daly was phenomenal. Depending on your comfort level of the relationship you are wanting when it comes to adoption no matter what it is they respect it. Whether it’s wanting to know everything or wanting to know very little, it is respected. The support and the reassurance working with this agency never failed me. To constantly be treated with respect and support through a important decision like adoption is crucial. Ashley quickly became a friend that I needed in my eyes more than an adoption specialist. Ashley has been here for me from beginning to end and still here. I was scared at first of the unknown, but I was sure of what I wanted for my child and that was more than I could offer. However a waiting family is ready to offer. Now a child that is now a loved blessing to two families that love as one. My family and theirs as one. Every choice is a hard one to be made but for me I made the best one for my child. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the respect, support, and true heart into what she does of Ashley.
